Frequently Asked Questions About the Diocese of Reno Scholarship Fund

How much of my donation will go toward paying student's tuition?
100% of donations go toward providing children access to a Catholic education. Every year, the total amount raised for the scholarship has been matched by a generous donor, effectively doubling contributions and making your donation’s impact even greater.

Without your generosity and altruism, I would not be able to attend Bishop Manogue. It is with pleasure and honor that I write this thank you letter. —D.O.R.S. recipient in high school*

How can I support students in need through D.O.R.S.?
The best way to support D.O.R.S. is with a financial contribution. Every dollar donated goes to a family who wants to give their child a catholic education, but is barred by finances. The demand is currently much higher than the size of our fund, and a donation of any amount will help provide for a student in need.

We also ask that you keep our efforts in your prayers as the Lord can provide more than any other.

Finally, by identifying D.O.R.S. in your will, you could make your last act on earth one of generous giving and provide a child with a bright future.

When my mom told me that I got a scholarship, I was just so excited. I also get excited whenever there’s a D.O.R.S. concert. I really like singing at the concert every year. Once again, thank you and God bless. —D.O.R.S. recipient*

How are the students selected and who is eligible?
D.O.R.S. is a needs-based scholarship and as such, goes to families who need it most. Applications are made through FACTS Grants and Aid to verify a calculated need. We would love to provide a scholarship to all families that apply, but currently, the need far outweighs the size of our fund. In 2015, 355 families applied for the scholarship—We were able to provide for 33 of those families. Your donation could give more children access to a Catholic education.

Every morning we see our little angel go to school and we pray to God that we can continue seeing this scene every morning. When you came across, we knew it was possible to make this dream a reality. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we pray that you will forever be kept in God’s hands. —Parent of a D.O.R.S. recipient*

Students also take a part in their eligibility by demonstrating academic success and maintaining good behavior.

In the Diocese of Reno, the number of students going to higher education or military service from Catholic high school is 100%. Why is the privacy of the scholarship recipients protected?
